Small Groups

At Song of Life, we are part of a worldwide denomination (The United Methodist Church) that has its original roots in a movement launched within the Church of England in the 1700s. With emphases on both personal and social holiness, the Methodist movement - originally led by brothers John and Charles Wesley - emphasized the importance of small group gatherings for personal spiritual growth.

We believe strongly that small groups are a principal area where adults can grow in their love for God and neighbor, as well as in "living in faith everyday." Toward this end we seek to continually offer a variety of both ongoing and short-term small groups.

Some groups - called LIFE Groups - seek to offer a balance of the five emphases from our Vision statement (worship, care, share, grow, go). Other Small Groups meet with particular focus or goal in mind. All of our small groups seek to help individuals of different ages to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our current groups include:

  • Stand Alone Bible Studies - These one-session Bible studies, led by Pastor Ron, take place Tuesday evenings when we do not have any administrative or leadership team meetings scheduled. Topics and themes can vary. For information, or a schedule of upcoming studies, contact Ron.
  • Trilogy Bible Study - This ongoing group meets Mondays at 7:00PM to study the Bible, following the suggested Scriptures of the Revised Common Lectioanry. For more information and location, contact leader Jerri Arnold.
  • Livng the Questions - This is a series of three 7-week studies led by Mike Wilkerson, focusing on contemporary ("progressive") theology. The second session is going on over the summer on Wednesday evenings at 7pm. For more information and location, contact leader Mike Wilkerson.
  • Enough, a five-week small group focused on stewardship, will be led by Rev. Ron Bartlow beginning on Monday, September 27. Based on the book Enough written by rev. Adam Hamilton, this study features a DVD and weekly discussion. Contact Ron for more information.
