SoL History
OUR BEGINNING
History
Song of Life United Methodist Church started as a new church in the Queen Creek area with small groups gathering in homes beginning in late 2000. We were officially a United Methodist Fellowship by June 2001 as we started meeting and worshipping in local schools. SoL was chartered as a United Methodist Church on February 2, 2003 under our founding pastor, Rev. Candace Lansberry. We transitioned from meeting in elementary schools to our current location under our second pastor, Rev. Ron Bartlow and his wife, Rev. Lynn Bartlow. Started with the vision & mission to be a presence for all to experience the transforming presence of God as the population expanded further east, Song of Life continues to honor this foundational identity. During Rev. Sarai Case's tenure, we experienced expansive growth and even had a second campus located in San Tan Valley for a period of time. Rev. Jody Topping saw us through Covid and a capital campaign that retired our mortgage debt.
Looking to the future, Song of Life is called to retain our simple roots of formation, encouraging believers to connect with one another in what are often called affinity groups. We believe where two or more are gathered, the Almighty is present, whether they are gathered in a majestic building, a humble shack, or riding down a mountain on two wheels, when people who love the Lord & one another come together, transformation takes place. In recent years, under the leadership of our current pastor, Rev. Sylvia Harris, we have updated our buildings through internal and external renovation efforts and expanded our parking lot to provide greater and safe accessibility. We are currently engaged in prayerful consideration of who we are and what God wants to do next through us as we meet the Holy Spirit's guiding presence to be the hands and feet of transforming grace for the sake of Jesus Christ.
